Cartoons

Special projects

What's up?

The updates for cartoons is going to be off for a little bit due to hectic lifestyle. The schedule has been roughly a new cartoon each week, but in a couple/few weeks I'm going to keep that schedule more rigidly, and hopefully change up the artwork too.

Info

When I was young I wanted to be a cartoonist as my professional career. I had a strip, it was called Dawson the dog. It was about Dawson the dog. He had a son, and I don't really remember much else about them although my parents could probably fill you in on that. I'm telling you this just to establish that I've been brilliant from birth, and that I've been destined to become a comic genius. And now here I am before you, that genius realized.

Second paragraph. You should also know that I'm not an incompetent artist. I'm actually brilliant at that too. You should probably just assume I'm brilliant at whatever unless I tell you otherwise. Anyhoo, seriously I do have some artistic ability. Besides the required art class in high school I took studio art and advanced drawing. (I say these things because I'm in college now) I have a bachelor's degree in high school art. Strangely enough, I'm using clip art for my cartoons. That's partly because I'm all post modern like that, and it's partly because being post modern makes executing an idea super fast.

When I make a cartoon for something, I come up with a few different ideas and decide which one I like the best. Where's there's multiple links for a given date, the first one is the one I ended up using. Try to keep in mind that there's usually a reason I rejected the other strips that week. But I thought someone might enjoy them.

My classical founding comes from Bill Watterson, of Calvin and Hobbes, and to a lesser degree Dilbert, by Scott Adams. The first time I used premade images for a cartoon was with friends Zach and Eric when we were advertising for the Capitalist Youth. We took a bunch of Ziggy cartoons and changed the captions. I've also used pictures from Jack Chick tracts to advertise for myself. (I don't count him as an influence, but most of what he does is unintentionally funny) What I didn't know then is that this sort of concept was already established on the internet. I have to give major credit to David Rees of My New Fighting Technique is Unstoppable and Get Your War On. Partly because it looks like I'm copying him hardcore, but mostly because he's hilarious and he knows how to take advantage of the medium. I also credit Achewood by Chris Onstad and Buttercup Festival by "Elliott G. Garbauskas" for influencing my style. (Be aware that some of the cartoons I've listed here might be offensive to you)
